THE CITY

It's not quite as I expected...

In the country, the air is fresh and clean; the smells are varied but all organic; and the scenery is verdant and bursting with life.

In the city, the streets and alleys are narrow, and because the buildings are all so tall, they remain dark by day and by night. The pavements are filthy; piles of uncollected refuse line the roadways, disturbed only by the movement of small dark furry creatures. In the major streets, a galaxy of neon signs flash continually as the crowds hurry by, brushing against your shoulder but never greeting you.

I imagined a clean modern and orderly collection of buildings, built to add beauty to the cityscape, with sleek silver travelling tubes (modern trains) silently traversing the streets.

At least, that's what people told me before.

I guess the city has changed greatly in the last few years.
